CAPCON 2009 is now in the history books... as a success!!!
With hundreds of wonderful model entries, many great bargains at the vendor tables, gracious sponsorships for the categories & specials/themes, and fantastic items at the silent auction — CAPCON 2009 is now in the history books... as a success!
The CAPCON 2009 Steering Committee would like to thank all of the sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and especially the participants for helping to make this a show to remember.
Check out the CAPCON 2009 Web site to see the results and some links to photo sites.
IPMS Ottawa/Farnborough
I recently discovered the videos from Testors ScaleWorkshop (hosted by master modeller Brett Green).
I was *very* impressed with these videos as they demonstrate quite clearly many excellent modelling techniques.

CF-18 Demo Jet — Fresh from the Paint Bay
Some photos of this year's CF-18 demonstration aircraft in its Centennial of Flight colours for 2009.
The crew in Cold Lake have done an amazing job and the aircraft is stunning. It will surely be catching a lot of eyes during the air show season.
These same photos appear on the Cdn Air Force's Centennial website: www.canadiancentennialofflight.ca/airforce/images_e.php
Many thanks to IPMS Ottawa member Sean Henry from bringing these great photos to our attention!

Panther Tank at Canadian War Museum
The Panther tank now on display at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, Canada is an especially fine piece of armour. Two more interesting things about this particular tank... it was captured on film in 1954, and Model Military International has a very good article about this particular type of Panther!
Click on the pics below to see the photos of the Panther tank before... now... and in model form.

In the early photograph, this Mk V Panther is shown at the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps School at Camp Borden, Ontario in April 1954, accompanied by members of the British Columbia Dragoons on course during Easter holidays.
(Many thanks to IPMS Ottawa member Sean Henry for the early photograph and the MMI magazine. The November 2007 magazine article was posted with the permission of Model Military International.)
Special Thanks from Vintage Wings of Canada
IPMS Ottawa received a very special "thank you" from Vintage Wings of Canada for participating in their 2009 Open House.
I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to IPMS for your support of Vintage Wings of Canada's mission to inspire, to educate and to commemorate. I hope to convey to you a sincere thank you for the aircraft model display and demonstration which took place at our Open House event Saturday, June 6th, 2009.
Your presence was extremely popular with all of our Open House visitors and was very much appreciated by the entire Vintage Wings of Canada staff and volunteer team. We look forward to working with you again at our next Open House, September 19th, 2009.
Once again, thank you for your continued support as we attempt to share the historical significance of Canada's aviation heritage and to demonstrate that these aircraft are much more than just metal, fabric and wood artifacts."
Sincerely,
Michael Potter
